Dr. Graham Smith is currently the SAP Supply Chain Superintendent for Sohar Aluminium, specializing in the Procure to Pay Process (and EH & S). He was part of the Shell Services International team responsible for developing the feasibility study for the implementation of SAP in Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). When the project was approved, he joined PDO’s design and implementation team. Following the SAP go-live in 2002, he was one of the key people who successfully evaluated and implemented the electronic exchange for PDO in collaboration with OTN, the local technology service provider. He spent the last thirty three years in the Contracting and Procurement industry primarily in the Oil and Gas exploration and Production environment and had worked for many of the Oil majors in my career, including Shell, Mobil, ESSO, PDO, QGPC and ARCO.

As an experienced Supply Chain Management (ERP Systems) professional, including more traditional Contracting and Procurement methods and processes, he possess a thorough and detailed knowledge of SCM Systems in such environments as Oil & Gas Exploration and Production, including Construction. He has the ability to provide detailed planning for delivery of strategic solutions using best practices, utilizing BE, BPR and the newer BEPL Tools and Techniques, E-Commerce and Workflow Strategies. He is comfortable with Technology and possess the ability to deliver business solutions by leveraging Technology utilizing a comprehensive SCM and Systems knowledge. In addition, he is a SAP Certified Consultant with some 10 years experience, contributing to feasibility Studies, Conceptual and detailed design, implementation and operational experience of the SAP R/3 Business System.

In May 2006, he moved to Sohar Aluminium to lead the SAP Purchase-to-Pay implementation.

He is a member of both the Internet Society and the British Computer Society working on projects which have helped in bridging the “Digital Divide” in many countries. He is also an active member of the United Nations Development Programmes that brings the use of the Internet to rural environments and emerging nations.

Dr. Smith spoke at the emerging nation’s summit in Yokohama in 2000 along with Mr. Bill Clinton, former President of the United States. He holds a Doctorate in e-Commerce and Internet Evolution, also holding an MBA from the United Kingdom. Dr. Smith regularly lectures at Internet Society and Supply Chain Management events around the world and is known and respected as one of the main proponents for the introduction of XML coding structure into the e-Commerce environment at the Internet Society Conference in San Jose, California in 1995.

He has also written and published many papers and articles on the subject of the use of the Internet for Supply Chain Management, Process Change and his own work environment of Contracting and Procurement.
